QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A site for a tower in Quincy that would be part of the Branch County 911 Communications Project was formally approved by the Quincy Village Council on Tuesday night.
The tower site would be on the east side of the village near to what is known as the wastewater lagoons area south of U.S. 12.
The tower location had to be changed. It was originally proposed to be built on Glenn Avenue but after nearby residents complained and no action was taken by the Village Council last month, a new site had to be found.
In addition, the Council voted 4-3 to allow the county to seek a variance and on a 5-2 vote, they allowed the county to start work on the foundation before the variance is obtained.
The Quincy tower would be part of the $9.3 million project which is designed to improve communications for law enforcement, firefighters and rescue crews in Branch County.
At last report, the location of a tower south of Coldwater has not been finalized. The original plans called for the tower to be located at the former Lakeland Elementary School building but the county and Coldwater Community Schools had not come to an agreement.
