COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Aiden Marsden threw a five inning no hitter as the Coldwater Cardinals swept the Hastings Saxons 10-0 and 7-1 on Thursday evening at Pat Lowe Field.
Marsden only threw 62 pitches in the opening game as he struck out five. Marsden’s no hitter was the first one by a Coldwater pitcher since 2016. Nick Shaw threw two no hitters during the regular season and Kameron Miller tossed a no-no against Olivet in the district tournament that same year.
Coldwater had 10 hits as Marsden, Nate Tappenden and Logan Farmer all collected two hits. Brynden Massey belted a two run homer.
Brock Thornton was the winning pitcher in the second game as he allowed one hit and struck out 10 in five shutout innings of work. He did not allow any walks.
The Cardinals are now 2-1 in the Interstate 8 and 7-2 overall.
Coldwater swept Hastings in the Junior Varsity doubleheader by scores of 8-3 and 8-4. Ian Stough and Matthew Nichols were the winning pitchers. Drake Thornton had a bases loaded double. Dalton Coville also had a double for Coldwater.
