Vera Kay Peck, 72, of Burlington Township, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Burlington Church of God, with Pastor David Rails officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Burlington Church of God, just prior to the funeral.
Kay was born January 30, 1949 in Marshall, Michigan to LesLeigh K. and Marge L. Freer. She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall Schools in 1969. Upon graduation she went to a special school to learn to read and write for her dyslexia. She worked six months at the Regional Center (State Home) in Coldwater Michigan, where she received training in nursing care and then worked 26 years at Maple Lawn Care Facility in Coldwater, Michigan.
She married Francis L. Peck on June 7, 1986 at the Burlington Church of God in Burlington. The couple made their home in Burlington. Faith, family, and her animals were a central part of Kay’s life. She greatly enjoyed attending church services and helping and attending the church’s Thursday Meals outreach. Her greatest love besides Jesus Christ and her husband Francis was her animals, especially her horses. She loved riding all day as a child and rode often as an adult.
She also loved her other animals: dogs, calves, chickens and turkeys. She sold some of the best eggs in the county. Her second greatest love was spending time with all her grandchildren.
Kay leaves to cherish her memory, her Burlington Church of God Family, special “Sisters” Malinda Lane and Vicki Ruddock; special friends Tom and Dorcas Roberts and Lou Ann and Ray Ball. A special thank you to pastor Dave and Dale Rails.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy (Patty) Warner and Leslie Warner; brothers, James (Cara) Babcock of Manistee and LesLeigh (Peggy) Freer of Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her mother-in-law, two sisters- in – law and their families, cousins and extended family, especially her Aunt Gwen who was like a second mother, and her loyal dog “Honey”.
In addition to her husband, Francis, she was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, her brother Vivalda (Vi), father-in law and brother-in-law.
