COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A major road project on the west side of Coldwater is on Monday night’s Coldwater City Council agenda.
The Council will be asked by City Manager Keith Baker to approve a resolution in support of the proposed Michigan Department of Transportation road improvement project from Willow Lane east to Western Avenue and Butters Avenue.
The project is scheduled for the summer of 2023 but it could take place sooner if the funding becomes available.
Baker says in his letter to the Council that M.D.O.T. is recommending converting U.S. 12 between Willow Lane and Western Avenue/Butters Avenue, from its existing four lanes to a three-lane configuration.
U.S. 12 has a a three lane configuration which consists of two lanes and an center turn lane from Western Avenue east into downtown.
Baker says the scope of the project will include the milling and paving of the road surface and refurbishment of the bridge over the Coldwater River.
He adds it’s required by M.D.O.T. that the local unit of government acknowledge and formally support the proposed project.
Meanwhile, the milling and repaving of U.S. 12 from Western Avenue to Michigan Avenue is scheduled to start on June 1. Utility repairs are already underway.
