George E. Speter, 90, passed away April 23, 2021 at The Laurels of Coldwater and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ed will be buried at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan with Pastor Terry L. Tomlinson of Coldwater Baptist Church officiating. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation in Union City.
George was born May 27, 1930, to George Speter and Ann (Hajak) Speter. He married Grace Ferrell on November 17, 1967. He liked to be called Ed, short for Edward. George served four years in the Army Air Force during the Korean War.
He had a great sense of humor and was always smiling and joking. He was called the “Balloon Man” because he made balloon animals to give to children and adults to see them smile. George loved children. He liked to make things with his hands like puzzles, fish nets, and homemade ropes.
He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts. He challenged them with his puzzles and they enjoyed helping him make ropes. He was a very caring and talented man.
Surviving him is his wife of 53 years, Grace Speter (Coldwater); his niece, Aleta Christensen (Nevada) and two great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Kroger.
