PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals split their Interstate 8 doubleheader at Pennfield on Tuesday with both games ending up with 5-4 scores. The Panthers won the opener, the Cardinals took the nightcap.
Coldwater snapped a 2-2 tie in the second game by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout by Aiden Marsden and a two run double by Nate Tappenden.
Coldwater had to hold on in the last of the seventh as the Panthers scored twice and had the tying and winning runs on base with nobody out. Joe Closson came on in relief and got the final three outs to earn the save. Marsden was the winning pitcher.
Logan Farmer had an RBI triple while Brynden Massey had an RBI single.
Coldwater is now 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Interstate 8.
