LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A bill sponsored by 58th District Republican State Representative Andrew Fink which would streamline the process of getting dead people off of election rolls passed in the State House on Tuesday 109-0.
Fink says the bill would mandate county clerks update their Qualified Voter File once a month and remove the registrations of deceased voters.
The bill calls for the list to be scrubbed daily in the 15 days prior to an election.
Currently, city and township clerks are responsible with removing the deceased from the Q.V.F. after they get death notifications from county clerks.
House Bill 4491 was part of a series of bi-partisan election bills that cleared the House on Tuesday. The package includes moving the primary elections from August to June and eliminating the May elections.
The bills still have to be approved by the State Senate and signed into law by Governor Whitmer.
