COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward during their work session on Thursday a request from the Commission on Aging to continue in a State of Michigan hazard pay program for their home service aides.
The hazard pay program was previously approved to last from July 2020 until this past February.
Commission on Aging Executive Director Amy Duff says the state has extended the program and another approval was needed from the Commissioners.
Duff said the hazard pay will help aides who are exposed to the COVID-19 virus when they visit client homes.
She added reimbursement from the state for hazard pay has nearly covered all expenses but not entirely. There were two grant periods when they did not get the amount requested. Duff said the shortfall of just under $1,900 was fairly manageable.
Commissioners also brought forward a request to update the C.O.A. Background Check policy to meet new grant requirements. Duff says state and federal grants for senior services now require employees and volunteers to be checked against the Sex Offender Registries at the state and national level.
Commissioners are scheduled to take formal action on the requests Tuesday afternoon.
