COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater split a non-conference doubleheader with Otsego on Thursday evening at Pat Lowe Field as the Cardinals dropped the opener 6-1 but won the nightcap 5-4.
Coldwater was held to two hits and committed five errors in dropping the first game.
The second game was tied 2-2 in the last of the sixth before Coldwater’s Nate Tappenden blasted a two run homer. Otsego rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4 but Cam Heineman scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning on a throwing error. Joe Closson was credited with the win. Brynden Massey and Tappenden both had two RBI’s.
The split left the Cardinals with a record of 23-9.
Coldwater was scheduled to play at Marshall Friday in the conclusion of a suspended game from April 19 but inclement weather forced a postponement. No new date has been announced yet. The score was tied 6-6 after four innings. If Coldwater wins, they will get a share of the Interstate 8 title.
Also in baseball on Thursday, Bronson defeated Tekonsha 14-1.
