COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One day after it was approved by the Coldwater Community School District Board of Education, the Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a purchase agreement Tuesday for the sale of the old Lakeland Elementary School building and land from the school district to the county.
Commissioners took the action when they re-opened Tuesday’s meeting after they discussed the land acquisition in closed session.
The property at 519 Otis Road in Ovid Township will be used for the location of one of the five towers that are being installed as part of a $9.3 million Branch County 911 project which is designed to improve communications between various emergency, police and fire agencies in the county.
The other towers will be in Union City, Bronson, Quincy and at the new Branch County Jail.
The school district and the county agreed to a purchase price of $150,000 with the closing scheduled for June 15. The county would have the right to have limited use of the property if the closing is delayed beyond that date.
The limited use agreement would allow the county to build a concrete pad on the property to support a radio tower, subject to the necessary insurance.
The sale is contingent upon the county completing its due diligence in regards to testing, inspections and other matters.
