HOMER, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles girls softball team added more hardware to the Q.H.S. trophy case on Saturday.
After winning the Big 8 Conference title by running the table in league play, the Orioles won the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three district title on Saturday in Homer.
The Orioles defeated Hillsdale 10-0 in the morning semifinals and then rallied to defeat Big 8 Conference foe Jonesville 6-5 for the district title.
Quincy trailed Jonesville 5-2 in the last of the seventh before Hayley Wineland and McKynna Connin delivered back-to-back two run doubles to give the Orioles the district title.
Quincy advances to next Saturday’s M.H.S.A.A. regional tournament at Michigan Center where they will face Leslie at 12:00 noon in the second regional semifinal. The winner will play either Clinton or Napoleon for the regional title and the right to advance to the state quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Bronson and Union City saw their seasons come to an end in the Division Three districts on Saturday.
The Vikings hosted a district and they defeated Centreville 3-2 in nine innings in the semifinals. Winning pitcher Lynsey Smith delivered an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning to drive in the go ahead run. But the Vikings lost the district title game to Buchanan 6-0. Haylie Wilson and Brealyn Lasky both had two hits for Bronson.
Bronson Coach Becky Gray said, “I feel the girls played hard today. We were able to find a way to win the first game and come from behind to do it. We got beat by a very good Buchanan team.”
The Vikings finished with a record of 24-11.
