ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A lightning strike from storms that rumbled through Branch County Friday morning is being blamed for a fire southeast of Archer Lake which destroyed a home, a garage and two vehicles that were inside of the garage.
Quincy firefighters were dispatched to 796 East Central Road just before 8:00 a.m.. Quincy Assistant Fire Chief Rodney Bailey says the lightning strike led to power lines falling on the garage.
The fire started in the garage before spreading to the nearby home. Three persons were inside of the home at the time. They along with some pets got out of the house but as of Friday afternoon a cat was still missing.
Bailey says some of the contents inside of the home were saved.
Coldwater fire crews responded on automatic mutual aide. Lakeland and Fremont, Indiana crews were called in for assistance. Tankers were also requested to come to the scene.
The fire was called under control at 8:53 a.m.. No injuries were reported.
