JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, IN (WTVB) – A Reading teenager was seriously injured Friday afternoon when his 2012 Jeep Liberty crashed west of Fremont, Indiana.
According to a news release issued by Steuben County Sheriff Rodney Robinson, the teenage boy was heading east on State Road 120 near County Road 100 East just before 2:00 p.m. at a high rate of speed.
Robinson says as he was approaching the intersection his vehicle left the south side of the road for an unknown reason before colliding with the concrete structure of the Indiana Toll Road bridge spanning over State Road 120.
The youngster, who was said to be 16-years-old, suffered serious injuries to his lower extremities and was taken to a Fort Wayne area hospital in critical condition.
The Sheriff’s Department says he was not wearing his seat belt but airbags deployed when the crash took place.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting at the scene were Fremont Police and Fire Rescue, Steuben County EMS, and the Indiana State Police.
