COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It was announced on Monday that the rest of the 2021 Tibbits Summer Theatre season will be held inside the historic Tibbits Opera House.
After initially deciding to stay at The Ponds this spring because of continuing COVID-19 restrictions and a spike in cases, last week’s excessive rain forced a cancellation of the opening night of “The Fantasticks”.
It was also decided to move the show back to the Tibbits for the rest of its run due to the safety of the company members, audience and equipment.
Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney said, “We made the move in miraculous fashion with full support of the company and staff. We have followed the CDC guidelines throughout the pandemic. Those guidelines now allow us to open inside at full capacity. Rather than again make that huge transition, we will stay at the theatre.”
She thanked The Ponds and the Lindsley Family. “Their support allowed us to carry on through the unprecedented challenges last summer and assured we would be able to continue through the uncertainty going into this summer.”
Through the past year Tibbits has invested nearly $10,000 in equipment and supplies to improve the safety of the theatre for its patrons. That investment included a unit to help purify the air. The theatre will continue to monitor and follow CDC guidelines and ask that patrons respect the efforts and do not attend if they have any symptoms of illness.
“The Fantasticks” will continue its run through this Friday. The rest of the season will feature performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” and “On Golden Pond”.
