GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Weatherwise, it’s proving to be a year of extremes and quick turn-arounds. Drought conditions have ended in counties in southwest Michigan, thanks to waves of heavy rainfall in the past couple of weeks. But some areas of the state have not had as much relief from dry conditions.
The latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor showed improvements across much of the region, following rains in the second half of June and so far this month. About 35% of the state is back to normal, for now.
Dryness persists to the north of a Grand Rapids-Lansing line and is listed as ‘severe’ in Manistee and Benzie counties, parts of the Thumb, and along Lake Huron north of Bay City.
