(BURR OAK, MI) — The Village of Burr Oak is among 16 municipalities in Michigan that will get funds through the state’s Financially Distressed Cities, Villages and Township Grant Program.
Burr Oak will get $77,000 from the program which will be used to enhance the village’s water system through the replacement of water meters.
State Treasurer Rachel Eubanks announced Monday that $2-point-7 million will be distributed to communities around the state.
Municipalities can participate in the program if they are experiencing one or more conditions indicative of “probable financial stress” as defined in state law.
The grants fund specific projects, services or strategies — including infrastructure and public safety enhancements — that move a city, village or township toward financial stability.
