BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Strong storms that went through early Thursday morning caused about 200 Consumer’s Energy customers in Branch County to lose their electricity.
Most of the outages were in the far northern part of the county that covered an area east of Union City as well as the villages of Burlington and Tekonsha. The power was restored in that area by 8:00 a.m..
Almost 8,900 Consumer’s customers system wide lost power after the storms went through at about 5:30 a.m..
Kalamazoo County had about a fourth of the total outages as over 2,700 customers lost power. Over 1,500 Calhoun County customers were knocked into the dark.
Branch County was placed under a severe thunderstorm watch by the National Weather Service just before the storms went through.
The storms featured heavy rain and lightning. The Branch County Memorial Airport recorded a wind gust of 32 miles an hour just before 6:00 a.m..
After nearly a week of steamy and uncomfortable conditions, Thursday morning’s stormy weather brought in some refreshing air. High temperatures are expected to be in the 70s into early next week with nighttime lows in the 50s.
