COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Building Authority has scheduled a ZOOM Meeting for next Thursday, September 9 at 11:30 a.m. for the purpose of reviewing the progress of the Branch County Jail Building Project and authorizing payment of submitted construction invoices.
Construction on the new jail is all but finished and the facility is scheduled to open on September 30.
A tour was given to the Coldwater City Council on Thursday evening.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a revised bonding resolution for the Branch County Jail project in April of 2020.
Branch County Bond Counsel John Axe from the Detroit firm of Clark Hill told Commissioners at that time the resolution covered two items including a revised lease contract approved June of 2019 by the Building Authority which reduced the maximum amount of the project to $26 million.
Branch County voters approved a 20 year millage in August of 2018 for the new jail.
The request was for no more than 1.25 mills per year with an option to refinance after seven years.
