COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Children’s Museum of Branch County maybe heading back to downtown Coldwater.
City Economic Development Coordinator Audrey Tappenden stated in a letter to the Downtown Development Authority Board for a special meeting on Wednesday that the staff and a committee of D.D.A. board members have been working with the museum to explore its options about coming back downtown.
The former Taylor’s Stationers building at 60 West Chicago which is owned by the D.D.A. is one option being considered.
Economic development staff are hoping the ground floor and basement can be reserved so the feasibility of such a move can be studied further. That move would temporarily take the building off the market.
Tappenden said they know the cost of relocation and site improvements are significant according to architects from Intersect. But she added it was the staff’s goal to present a proposal to the D.D.A. Board in six months or sooner. Other downtown buildings have been looked at including 71/73 West Chicago.
The Children’s Museum of Branch County has been at the Fairfield Plaza on Marshall Street since June 2017.
The museum opened in downtown Coldwater during the 2014 Strawberry Fest, but officials were forced to find a new home after the building they were in at 53 West Chicago was sold.
