COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An annual audit showed Branch County finances were “healthy, stable and growing” during 2020.
C.P.A. Aaron Stevens from the Lansing firm of Maner/Costerisan presented his report on Thursday during the Branch County Board of Commissioners work session as the Commissioner’s work on the county’s budget for 2022 is about ready to get underway
His audit showed the county’s general fund had a total fund balance of over $3-point-8 million as of December 31 which was 27 percent of the county budget, far above the suggested level of 17 percent.
Stevens also reported revenues went up in 2020 compared to the previous year while expenditures went down.
Stevens also pointed out revenues exceeded expenditures in four out of the last five years. The only year during that span that fund balance had to be used by the county was in 2017.
