BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Some Branch County voters will be deciding school and fire protection millage requests during Tuesday’s off-year election.
Voters in the Coldwater Community School district will be asked to approve two bonding proposals for projects at Coldwater High School.
The first proposal would be for a $50 million bond to finance a 20,000 square foot expansion which would include adding a second story to the building which opened in the 1950’s. Upgrades and remodeling would also be done to the building which district officials say are much needed. According to literature on the proposals, the district can issue this new bond and raise $50 million with a zero mill net increase if the proposal is approved.
The second proposal would be for a $17 million bond plus a point-39 mills increase for a 950 seat auditorium at the high school. It’s the second attempt at building an auditorium at the high school after voters turned thumbs down to a proposal in 2015.
Voters in the Tekonsha School District will be asked to renew 17.7826 mills for five years between 2022 and 2026 to provide funds to the district for operational purposes.
Bethel Township voters are being asked to approve a small increase of no more than eight-tenths of a mill for five years between 2022 and 2027 for fire protection and equipment. The increase will raise approximately $26,000 in the first year the millage is levied.
There are five incumbents who are running unopposed in the City of Coldwater. Mayor Tom Kramer is facing no opposition as he runs for another two year term.
Also running unopposed for four year City Council terms are Travis Machan in the First Ward, Jim Knaack in the Second Ward, Michael Beckwith in Ward Three and Randall Hazelbaker in the Fourth Ward.
If you planning to vote in person, the polls will be open on Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
