COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien announced on Tuesday that Nora Geiger is being promoted from Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.
She has been an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the past two years and had represented the State of Michigan in neglect and abuse proceedings as well as juvenile criminal matters.
With Geiger’s promotion, Virginia Matherly, will serve as the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney effective next Monday.
Over the past three months, she has assisted the office in criminal matters as an independent contractor, pursuant to a federal COVID-19 grant, while awaiting her bar exam results.
Stempien also announced the extension of a COVID-19 grant the office received in early 2021, which will allow them to continue to employ Douglas Tanner as their investigator through the end of 2022.
The Union City native was a Michigan State Police Trooper for 25 years prior to his retirement.
