KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A family who lost everything in a fire last Saturday afternoon in Kinderhook Township is trying to put their lives back together.
Kati Snyder, her fiancé Tony, their two children and Snyder’s mother were in their rental home at 215 Prairie River Drive west of Dragon Lake when the fire broke out at about 4:15 p.m. in a attached two car garage.
Lakeland Fire Chief Dave Smith says they managed to get out before firefighters arrived but the garage was gone and the flames had spread to the back of the house.
The fire was called under control at 4:54 p.m. but not before it did about $150,000 worth of damage.
Smith says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Lakeland firefighters received mutual aid from the Fremont, Indiana and Bronson Fire Departments.
While the family escaped injury, it’s feared their cat was lost in the fire. It has not been seen since last Saturday.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family recover from the fire. As of Wednesday morning, they were almost halfway to their $3,500 goal.
