UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City says their generous community donated 351 gifts to 57 children and 21 families through the Giving Tree program this Christmas in hopes of brightening the season for those who were in need.
Jason McBride at State Farm Insurance, Southern Michigan Bank and Trust, Heator Insurance, Merchants True Value and Vozar Insurance provided 10 holiday dinners to families as well.
Each child received a minimum of five gifts.
Village officials want to thank everybody who adopted families, provided gifts, donated time and materials and/or helped spread the word.
Those who wanted to helped simply stopped by the Village office and sponsored an area youngster by selecting a tag off the Giving Tree.
Criteria for sponsorship required that the children be under the age of 18 and have a genuine financial family need.
They must also live in Union City and/or attend Union City Schools.
Personal information is not shared with sponsors.
