Victor Hedman had two goals and an assist for the short-handed Tampa Bay Lightning, who earned a 6-4 win over the host Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.
Nikita Kucherov, Mathieu Joseph and Steven Stamkos each had a goal and assist, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare also scored and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves for the Lightning.
Tampa Bay played the game with just four defensemen because of injuries but still won for the sixth time in the past seven games.
Blake Lizotte, Alex Iafallo, Arthur Kaliyev and Phillip Danault scored while Cal Petersen made 19 saves for the Kings, who have dropped two in a row after a four-game winning streak.
Canadiens 5, Stars 3
Sam Montembeault made a career-high 48 saves as Montreal ended a nine-game road drought (0-6-3) by beating Dallas, one of the NHL’s best home teams.
Christian Dvorak scored two goals, Tyler Toffoli had a goal and an assist and Nick Suzuki had two assists for the Canadiens. Montreal’s Michael Pezzetta and Josh Anderson also scored.
Tyler Seguin, Joe Pavelski and Jacob Peterson all scored for Dallas, which had won five straight at home.
Canucks 3, Predators 1
Brock Boeser scored the go-ahead goal on a power play early in the third period and Thatcher Demko made 31 saves to lift visiting Vancouver over Nashville.
Elias Pettersson scored his third goal in two games and Juho Lammikko also tallied to send the Canucks to their second straight win.
Rookie Philip Tomasino scored a power-play goal and David Rittich turned aside 21 shots for the Predators, who have lost four in a row (0-3-1) following a sizzling 12-1-1 stretch.
Sabers 3, Senators 1
Michael Houser made 43 saves in his first start of the season to help visiting Buffalo top Ottawa.
Houser moved to 3-2-0 in five career NHL appearances. Dylan Cozens, Mark Jankowski and Alex Tuch scored for the Sabres.
Drake Batherson scored the Senators’ lone goal. Anton Forsberg, who was a last-minute starter after Matt Murray came down with a non-COVID illness, made 29 saves.
Islanders 4, Flyers 3 (SO)
Oliver Wahlstrom scored in the ninth round of a shootout to lift New York past host Philadelphia.
Wahlstrom was the only player on either team to score in the shootout. Robin Salo, Josh Bailey and Casey Cizikas scored as the Islanders won on consecutive nights against the Flyers. Semyon Varlamov stopped 31 shots.
Claude Giroux had one goal and one assist for the Flyers, who dropped their ninth in a row. James van Riemsdyk and Travis Konecny also scored for Philadelphia, and Carter Hart made 28 saves.
Hurricanes 7, Bruins 1
Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored twice in his team’s five-goal first period and Frederik Andersen recorded 31 saves to propel Carolina over host Boston.
Teuvo Teravainen, Seth Jarvis, Derek Stepan, Jaccob Slavin and Andrei Svechnikov each added one goal apiece for Carolina. Tony DeAngelo logged three assists, Slavin had two and Teravainen, Stepan and Svechnikov had one apiece for the Hurricanes.
Patrice Bergeron scored the lone goal for Boston, which had its season-best five-game winning streak snapped. The loss was just the Bruins’ second in 10 games since the NHL’s COVID-related schedule pause.
Capitals 4, Jets 3 (OT)
Tom Wilson scored 26 seconds into overtime, and Washington overcame a two-goal deficit and a late blown lead to beat visiting Winnipeg.
Evgeny Kuznetsov made a rush to the net, where Winnipeg goaltenderConnor Hellebuyck got in the way, but Wilson banged the puck home to give Washington its first overtime victory in eight decisions this season. Alex Ovechkin scored his 27th goal for the Capitals, who halted an 0-2-1 home rut.
Kyle Connor registered his team-leading 21st goal and an assist while Cole Perfetti posted the first goal of his NHL career for the Jets.
Flames 5, Panthers 1
Sean Monahan scored twice and Johnny Gaudreau tied a career high with four assists as host Calgary beat Florida to snap a four-game skid.
Matthew Tkachuk collected one goal and two assists, while Rasmus Andersson and Blake Coleman also scored for the Flames. Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves in a strong outing.
Sam Bennett replied for the Panthers, who saw their four-game winning streak snapped and lost in regulation for the first time in 10 games. Spencer Knight stopped 26 shots.
