COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals retained a share of first place in the Interstate 8 boys basketball standings on Friday night with a 80-61 victory over the Harper Creek Beavers at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
After falling behind 16-11, the Cardinals used a 19-10 advantage in the second period to take a 30-26 lead at the half. Coldwater kept the momentum going in the third quarter with a 23-9 edge and the Beavers were unable to mount a serious threat in the final period. It was a rugged game with the two teams combining for 51 fouls and 62 foul shots.
Ethan Crabtree led the Cardinals in scoring with 24 points. He also had five assists. Donte Work added 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Lu LeBron had 13 points and Brandon Downs finished with nine points.
The Cardinals are now 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Interstate 8.

Harper Creek were victors in both of the underclassmen games. The Beavers won the J.V. contest 64-56. Ayden Dirschell led Coldwater with a game-high 25 points while Evan Porter had 15 points and Tyson Roby had 10 points. Harper Creek won the freshman game 70-20. Drew Ennis led Coldwater with six points.
