COLDWATER, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A convicted serial killer died recently at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater while serving out four life sentences.
A spokesman with the Michigan Department of Corrections said that Danny Ranes died on January 29 at the age of 78.
He was convicted of raping and killing four women in the early 1970s.
Correctional staff found Ranes unresponsive and attempted lifesaving measures until he was pronounced dead by a doctor from an area hospital.
Michigan State Police are investigating the death but they say there were no signs of foul play or drug use.
Ranes was convicted in the 1972 slayings of 18-year-old Western Michigan University student Pamela Fearnow; 19-year-old Chicago residents Claudia Bidstrup and Linda Clark; and 29-year-old Patricia Howk of Kalamazoo Township.
