BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Even though the entire State of Michigan is still at a high risk level for the spread of COVID-19, health officials are thankful the number of cases have gone down in recent weeks.
Statistics from the State of Michigan show the seven day positive test rate in Branch County has gone down to just under 28 percent as of Tuesday after being as high as 42 percent on January 22. Meanwhile, there has been a large drop in the number of weekly cases per 100,000 population in Branch County. That number has gone down from 1,790 on January 25 to 432 on Tuesday.
While the numbers are tracking in the right direction, they are still above thresholds recommended by the C.D.C..
Health officials blamed the omicron variant for the spike in case numbers that took place in the weeks after the holiday season.
The number of daily cases reported by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has dropped over the last week. A total of 14 new cases were reported in Branch County on Wednesday. The Community Health Agency says there have been 9,749 COVID-19 cases in Branch County since March of 2020 with 159 deaths attributed to the virus.
The Calhoun County Public Health Department reported this week the county has gone over 500 COVID-19 related deaths. Bronson Methodist Hospital will host a virtual program remembering those who have died from the virus. Healing Steps Forward will be held on February 15 at 7:30 p.m. at www.bronsonvirtualvigil.com.
