COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch Intermediate School District Board of Education approved the hiring of Dustin Scharer on Wednesday as the new Assistant Superintendent and Director of Career and Technical Education. He will take over for Randy Sowles who will be retiring this summer on July 29. Scharer presently serves as the Principal of the Branch Area Careers Center.
Before he became the C.T.E. Director, Sowles also served as the Principal of the Careers Center.
Sowles has worked in the B.I.S.D. for the last 23 years and has been in education for over three decades.
Scharer succeeded Ray Wheaton as Principal when he retired a year ago.
He spent nine years as a teacher and 10 years as the Jonesville High School Principal before coming to the B.I.S.D..
He earned his college degrees at Spring Arbor University and Marygrove College.
Superintendent Kris Jenkins said there were five applicants for the job.
In other business, the board approved the extension of administrator contracts for one year through June of 2025.
