COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 36-year-old Coldwater man who was charged in the break-in at the Coldwater Golf Course clubhouse earlier this month has now been charged with break-ins at other area businesses in the past four months.
Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien announced Friday that William Sowards will face six different counts of Breaking and Entering a Building, one count of Breaking and Entering a Coin Machine, one count of Possession of Burglary Tools, and one count of Malicious Destruction of Personal Property over $200 but less than $1000, after an investigation into six separate complaints involving breaking and entering of a building spanning from October 21, 2021, to February 23, 2022.
On February 13, 2022, Troopers from the Michigan State Police were dispatched to an alarm at the Coldwater Golf Course, in Coldwater Township. After completing their investigation, William Sowards was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering of a Building with Intent to Commit a Larceny after police received a tip he was near the Shell gas station at U.S. 12 and Western Avenue in Coldwater.
After further investigation, the Coldwater Police Department says it was able to connect Sowards to five other Breaking and Entering complaints involving Pines Behavioral Health, Karim Healthcare, Cornwell Computers, Virginia Manor Apartments, and Snyder’s Laundry Mat.
Stempien’s office says during the course of the investigation by the Coldwater Police Department, they were able to recover some stolen property from the complaints, which has since been returned to the owners of the property.
