UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Defense was the story once again Friday night for the Bronson Vikings girls basketball team as they won the Division Three District championship at Union City with a 39-28 victory over the Reading Rangers.
After falling behind 10-8 after the first quarter, the Vikings turned up the defensive pressure as they only allowed 18 points for the rest of the game and forced Reading into 25 turnovers.
Bronson led 20-16 at the half. The Vikings broke the game open in the third quarter when they outscored the Rangers 15-4 and took a 35-20 lead.
Haylie Wilson led Bronson with a game-high 17 points while Aubree Calloway added 14 points.
The Vikings have won six games in a row. They will take a 15-7 record into the Division Three regional semifinal against Buchanan in Hartford on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m..
