Joan Alice Collins, 87, of Litchfield, formerly of Union City, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the Hillsdale Hospital McGuire Long Term Care Unit in Hillsdale under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 12 noon, at the Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 4:00-7:00 p.m., also at Lighthouse in Union City.
Joan was born May 25, 1934 in Coldwater, Michigan to Floyd and Dorothy (Kurfus) Petty. Joan grew up in Union City, graduating from Union City High School in 1952. She later attended and graduated from Argubright Business College with a certificate from the business program. On September 18, 1952, Joan married Richard Collins, who preceded her in death on January 13, 1964, when their children were very young.
Joan had the heart of a servant. She served as Union City Village and Union Township Treasurer for over 10 years. She spent many years volunteering at Union City Elementary School, where she would assist the teachers and children as a foster grandparent until she officially retired in 1983.
If you didn’t see Joan at the elementary or village offices, you may have seen her volunteering for the American Red Cross. Joan was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting and playing bridge. She attended the United Methodist Church. Above all else, Joan loved her family and supported her children and grandchildren in all their activities.
Joan is survived by her children: Kevin (Andrea) Collins of Litchfield, and Kelly Trautmann of Deer Park, TX; her grandchildren: Derek (Kayla) Collins of Litchfield, Megan (Daniel) Bove´ of Deer Park, TX, Amanda (Chris) Rose of Litchfield, Melanie Smith of Chester, VA, Jordan Fox of Litchfield, Kayla Smith of Houston, TX, and Olivia Trautmann of Deer Park, TX; Her sister, Nancy MacDonald of Union City. Joan has 8 great-grandchildren.
Joan is preceded by her parents, her husband, and two siblings: David Petty and Sue Peru.
