Lewis “Louie” Uhrig, 87, of Bronson, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Centrica Care Glenn Arbor Hospice Place in Battle Creek.
Cremation has taken place and a public memorial gathering will be held in the early summer. Private interment will take place at Matteson Cemetery.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Louie was born on June 14, 1934 to Robert and Hester (Bruce) Uhrig in Brown City, Michigan. He graduated from Bronson High School with the Class of 1952. Louie proudly served during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, being stationed in Texas, Wyoming, and Morocco.
On December 24, 1955 he married Barbara Goebel in Coldwater. His father, Rev. R.E. Uhrig presided over the wedding ceremony. Barbara preceded him in death on February 15, 2012.
Louie worked for General Telephone in Coldwater for 38 years, retiring in 1994. He served 6 years as a Branch County Commissioner in District 2 and served as a reserve on the Branch County Sheriffs Department. He enjoyed camping, country and gospel music, going to the Gospel Barn, coffee at McDonald’s in Bronson with his friends.
He attended the United Methodist Church in Bronson.
Surviving are his daughters, Kathy (Greg) Rockey of Coldwater, Karen (Ron) Brown of Bronson, Karla (Bill Mieras) Uhrig of Alto, MI and Kendra (Bernie) Uhrig-Shook of Coldwater, his grandchildren Jessica (Brandon) Sturm of Lafayette, IN, Joseph (Kassi) Rieger of Rochester Hills, MI, Christina Lloyd of Mt. Vernon, OH, and his great-grandchildren Madison, Olivia, Gus, Tabi, Sarah, Kaylee and Reegan.
In addition to his wife, Louie was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lila Place, his brothers Robert Uhrig, Jr., Charles Uhrig and James Uhrig.
