BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Gas prices spiked another 15 cents on Sunday as some stations in Coldwater were selling gas for as high as $4.49 a gallon.
It is by far the most expensive price for a gallon of gas ever seen in Branch County and experts are saying things are going to get worse before they get any better.
The jump in prices was triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Before the invasion, gas around the Coldwater area was selling for as low as $3.29.
Michigan’s average gas price continues to rise and set records.
Triple-A Michigan says the price is up a nickel from last week to $4.38 a gallon, which is up 48-cents in the past month and a $1.43 more than last year.
Any respite on the horizon? Not likely, according to Adrienne Woodland with the Auto Club.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said last Tuesday “There’s little, if any, good news about fuel prices heading into summer, and the problem could become worse should we see an above average hurricane season, which could knock out refinery capacity at a time we badly need it as refined product inventories continue to plummet.”
