Rev. Ralph H. “Tiny” Underwood, 76, of Batavia Township, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, July 4, 2022, at home, surrounded by his family, on hospice care.
A private viewing and ceremony will be held. Interment will be at Batavia Cemetery in Branch County, with son-in-law Ben Currier officiating.
Ralph was born September 5, 1945 in Bedford, Indiana to Ralph J. and Cleo (Holt) Underwood. He attended high school in Eva, AL, followed by serving for four years in the U.S. military, which included Army and Marine Corps service. On August 6, 1971, he married the former Carolyn L. Lorance in Shelbyville, TN. They moved to Coldwater in 1977 and had resided in Batavia Township since 1986. At the time of Ralph’s death, they had been together for 53 years.
Ralph traveled with a carnival early in his adult life and was a pastor from 1986-2008. He was the former pastor of the Batavia Community Church and attended and occasionally preached at the Apostolic Church in Albion.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Fred Underwood of Huntsville, AL, Cleo (Ben) Currier of Sturgis and Jessie (Rachael) Underwood of Richland; grandchildren Tabitha (T.J.) Shaffer, Savanah (Nick) Carr, Samantha Haley, Izabella Currier, Brody Currier and Avery Miller-Underwood; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Joe Underwood and Fred Underwood; and a sister, Fayretta McPheron.
Memorial donations are suggested to Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility, 50 Sanderson Lane, Coldwater, MI 49036.
