BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council got an update Monday night on efforts to have an auxiliary ambulance stationed at the Bronson fire station in case a LifeCare Ambulance is not available in a timely fashion.
Due to a lack of staffing, LifeCare hasn’t been able to meet its response time standards, which promises an ambulance will arrive within 12 minutes of being dispatched at least 80 percent of the time.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber emphasized this was not a LifeCare or local issue but it was something that was going on across the country.
The plan would be to dispatch the extra ambulance with fire department personnel if a normal ambulance isn’t available within 10 minutes.
Steve Frisbie from LifeCare Ambulance said about 40 percent of their full time positions for EMT’s and paramedics are unfilled. He’s hoping help is on the way.
Frisbie said the contract would be structured in a way which would allow either the city or Life Care to walk away.
Any agreement with LifeCare Ambulance would still need to be approved by the Bronson City Council and each of the six member townships of the rural fire association.
A consensus of the City Council indicated they supported the efforts of the fire department, the Fire Board and Life Care.
