COLDWATER. MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz reported during a brief meeting of the Branch County 911 Board on Wednesday that work on the county’s Enhanced 911 Project is winding down.
He said they were trying to fix a radio problem in the City of Coldwater.
The new 800 megahertz emergency radio system became fully functional at the end of March. It replaced an old system that dated back to the early 1990’s.
The project was designed to improve signals and communications for police, firefighters and rescue crews.
The new equipment included radios, consoles and pagers for all Branch County Law Enforcement Agencies and all Branch County Fire Departments, as well as for Branch County Central Dispatch.
Branch County voters approved a phone surcharge in November of 2020 to help fund the $9.3 million project.
