BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County missed the brunt of the severe storms that knocked out power for nearly 81,000 Consumers Energy customers over the weekend but there were some weather issues from storms that went through on Saturday morning.
Almost 400 Consumers Energy customers in the northern part of Branch County lost power for several hours on Saturday.
The nasty weather also forced organizers to cancel the Corner Farmers Market in downtown Coldwater.
Some adjustments had to be made to the Bronson Polish Festival schedule because of the storms.
Some of the vendors had to set up later than scheduled and the car show had to be cancelled but the weather cleared off in time for the Bronson Polish Festival parade and other events.
Another series of storms with winds topping 60 mph moved through parts of West Michigan Saturday night with those in Ionia, Kent, Muskegon, Van Buren and Ottawa Counties suffering the most widespread power outages.
According to Meteorologists, storms initially developed in Wisconsin before quickly moving east across open waters of Lake Michigan, with Muskegon and Ottawa counties being the first locations to see the thunderstorms Saturday night.
Nearly 200 Consumers Energy and contractor crews worked around the clock to restore power to more than 71 percent of impacted customers on Sunday.
Less then 27,000 customers were without power as of Sunday night. Everyone is expected to be back on line by Monday night.
