COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved almost $240,000 worth of computer network security upgrades for the city and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities on Monday night.
While there have been numerous security enhancements installed over the past 20 years, networks are facing increasing and more sophisticated threats.
American Municipal Power has recommended a more secure network to protect City municipal and SCADA networks which requires an upgrade to some hardware and firewalls.
IT Director Pat Pool said his department engaged with AMP in a network redesign project.
AMP has offered to help implement the new design and has submitted bids from three vendors for new network switches and firewalls.
Council member Jim Knaack was not happy about the lack of bids.
The proposed purchase is included in the 2022-2023 adopted City budget. The City and CBPU IT budgets are sharing the cost.
