QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Village Council approved the hiring of Mike Kolassa as new Quincy Police Chief during a special meeting on Tuesday and directed Village Manager Brittany Butler to enter into contract negotiations with him.
Kolassa was one of two candidates for the position. Branch County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Doug Pope was the other candidate before he withdrew his name from consideration.
Kolassa is a lieutenant with the Albion Public Safety Department.
The Council decided last month to offer a starting salary of $50,000 to whoever was chosen for the position. That figure would be open to negotiations depending on the candidate’s qualifications.
If he accepts the position after negotiations, Kolassa would succeed Jeremy Burch who stepped down last month after serving as Quincy Police Chief for five years.
Meanwhile, there is an opening on the Quincy Village Council after Village Council President Nick Loomis announced Tuesday’s meeting would be his last.
The Council accepted his resignation with regret.
Loomis has served as Village Council President since November of 2020. His term on the Council expires in November of 2024.
President Pro Tem Mike Hagaman will move into the Village Council President position.
