COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) –A 15-week Emergency Medical Technician course will begin next Monday at the K.C.C. Grahl Center in Coldwater.
There is no charge thanks to a funding package coordinated by Kellogg Community College along with state and local partners.
The class is being offered to help fill EMT positions with LifeCare Ambulance. A lack of staff in recent months has caused delays in response times.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday that four persons had signed up for the K.C.C. course.
Funding for eligible participants will be provided by the Michigan Learning and Education Advancement Program, LifeCare Ambulance/Emergent Health Partners and American Rescue Plan Act funds allocated by the Branch County government, depending on the applicant.
In order to qualify for this program, candidates would have to commit to LifeCare for two years, working specifically in Branch County upon completion of the course. If they didn’t complete the course, they would be required to pay back all monies given to them by LifeCare. There is a commitment of up to $150,000 from the County for this program that would come from ARPA funds. Commissioners plan to discuss the funding further at their next meeting.
