COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It was a happy Homecoming night at Cardinal Field, as Coldwater picked up its first win of the football season by beating Pennfield 42-27.
The Cardinals led 7-0 after the first quarter and 14-7 at the half, and they outscored the Panthers in the second half 28-20.
Coldwater’s rushing attack outgained Pennfield’s 205-102, as the Cardinals finished with 368 yards of total offense compared with 366 for the Panthers.
Jayden Kegler had 24 carries for 149 yards and his first varsity touchdown, and Alex Robey had 7 carries for 26 yards and two scores. Quarterback Zach Coffing had 13 carries for 95 yards and two rushing touchdowns; he was also 8-of-16 passing for 102 yards, a passing TD, and no interceptions. Hunter Munson had 4 catches for 59 yards and a score, while Donte Work added 3 catches for 31 yards.
Defensively, Coffing led the team with 7 tackles, while Alex Robey and Evan Porter each had an interception, and Trey Miller had a fumble recovery.
Coldwater improved to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in the Interstate 8, and will visit Jackson Northwest next Friday.
