COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council passed a resolution on Monday night authorizing the city to submit a Michigan DNR Spark Grant Program application for the Waterworks Park Improvement Project.
The program utilizes American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
City Manager Keith Baker says Spark grants are designed to help local communities that want to create, renovate or redevelop public recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
Brian Musselman from the CBPU acknowledged not everybody has been in favor of recent changes to the park.
The first round of applications for the Spark grant program are due next Monday. December 19, 2022.
Baker says City and CBPU staff have been working on the proposed renovation of Waterworks Park over the past year and recently identified the Spark grant as a possible funding source for this project.
A $400,000 grant will be sought with a local match of $200,000. It was proposed $50,000 be allocated in City funds with the other $150,000 coming from CBPU funds.
