BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Area high school basketball teams won’t be taking Christmas Break off, as they will be participating in a number of tournaments and showcases this week.
Coldwater’s boys basketball team will compete in the Green Division of the Cornerstone High School Holiday Tournament in Grand Rapids and will face Pewamo-Westphalia Tuesday afternoon at 4:45 p.m. Live coverage on WTVB will begin Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The Cardinals will then play against either Allendale or Sparta Thursday morning at 10 a.m. (consolation bracket) or 11:45 a.m. (championship bracket), with live coverage set for 15 minutes before the scheduled tip-off.
A total of ten games will be played over two days at the Battle Creek Central Field House during the Chuck Turner Holiday Classic, with a handful of Branch County teams involved in the action:
Wednesday, December 28
- BOYS: Kalamazoo Heritage Christian vs. Battle Creek Academy, 2 p.m.
- BOYS: Bellevue vs. Bronson, 4 p.m.
- GIRLS: Coldwater vs. Battle Creek Central, 6 p.m. (Coverage on WTVB begins Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.)
- BOYS: Ypsilanti vs. Battle Creek Central, 8 p.m.
Thursday, December 29
- GIRLS: Union City vs. St. Philip, 10 a.m.
- BOYS: Union City vs. St. Philip, 12 p.m.
- GIRLS: Harper Creek vs. Lakeview, 2 p.m.
- BOYS: Harper Creek vs. Lakeview, 4 p.m.
- GIRLS: Pennfield vs. Battle Creek Central, 6 p.m.
- BOYS: Pennfield vs. Battle Creek Central, 8 p.m.
Tekonsha’s boys basketball team will be at the Litchfield Christmas Tournament, facing North Adams-Jerome Wednesday at 6 p.m., with the host Terriers facing Jackson Prep at 7:30 p.m. Consolation and championship games will be on Thursday at the same times.
And Quincy will host a boys basketball tournament later this week. The Orioles will face Vandercook Lake at 2 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Maple Valley vs. Mendon at 3:30 p.m. Consolation and championship games will be played at the same times on Friday.
