Alan Su Kiong Yong, 76, of Coldwater, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
In following his wishes, cremation has taken place and the family is planning a memorial service at a later date.
The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Alan was born February 8, 1946 to Yong Fook Yin and Low Kim Hoe in Kudat, Malaysia. He was baptized and active in the Christian faith from a young age.
Alan was very involved in the YMCA and moved to the United States to pursue his undergraduate education at George Williams College on a YMCA scholarship. He later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Northern Illinois University.
June 6, 1972 he married the love of his life, Lucy Chan in Downers Grove, Ill. They made many memories over the years.
Alan put his education to good use as a life-long entrepreneur. He was involved in many types of business ventures including restaurants, manufacturing, computers, and most recently a day lily farm.
He was a man of strong Christian faith. Alan enjoyed gardening and cooking. He will be remembered for his optimistic and ambitious spirit as well as being hardworking and helpful to anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Alan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucy Yong; his children Caroline Patel and David (Laurel) Yong; his siblings Albert (Alice) Yong, John (Mary) Yong, Su Vui (Choi Fung) Yong, Alfred (Rosanne) Yong, Alex (Vanessa) Yong, and Lily (Sui Min) Chong; his grandchildren Desiree, Marcus, Jayden, Owen, and Clara; many nieces & nephews; and his good friend Kevin Delucenay.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Margaret (James) Chong.
