STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – While the sale of marijuana and marijuana-related products is legal in the State of Michigan, the Indiana State Police is reminding residents of the Hoosier State that marijuana in any form is illegal to possess in Indiana.
The Indiana State Police say one of their Troopers stopped a speeding silver Honda passenger car Monday afternoon shortly before 3:00 p.m. for a speeding violation on I-69 in Steuben County, just a few miles south of the Michigan state line.
During the course of the traffic stop, the driver was identified as 45-year-old Matthew Scott Bell of Beech Grove, Indiana.
While identifying the driver, State Police say the trooper saw a sealed package laying in plain view on the front passenger seat that was clearly labeled “RSO CANNABIS GUMMIES”.
When asked about it, Bell reportedly told the trooper that the cannabis product was legally purchased in Michigan.
The trooper reminded Bell that Marijuana products are illegal in Indiana.
State Police say a probable cause search of the vehicle then took place which revealed over eight pounds of suspected Marijuana and over seven pounds of packaged edible products, along with a whole assortment of other Marijuana related products and paraphernalia.
Bell was arrested and taken to the Steuben County jail, where he was incarcerated on three counts of dealing marijuana as well as charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
Indiana residents and others who legally buy marijuana products in another state such as Michigan are being reminded by authorities that not only is it illegal to have products such as Cannabis/THC edibles, waxes, oils and vape cartridges in the Hoosier State, it is also illegal in Indiana to operate a motor vehicle while impaired with these drugs and they are being advised not to bring purchases back to Indiana.
