COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The case against a Union City man who is facing numerous charges following a November 10 high speed pursuit while two children were in his vehicle has been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
25-year-old Owen Waters waived his Branch County District Court preliminary examination which was scheduled for Wednesday.
He is scheduled to appear for a Branch County Circuit Court arraignment on February 27.
Waters is facing charges of Third Degree Fleeing and Eluding, Operating While Intoxicated with an occupant less than 16 years old, and two counts of Child Abuse and Reckless Driving.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the pursuit started when their deputies saw a car traveling at a very high rate of speed heading south on Old U.S. 27 at Garfield Road. The deputies tried to stop the vehicle while it was weaving in and out of traffic.
After about five miles, the vehicle crashed at the end of West Fenn Road by Butcher Road.
The Sheriff’s Department said at the time of the incident that one child was buckled up, the other was not.
Not guilty pleas have been entered on behalf of Waters who is free after posting a $25,000 bond.
