BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings got a step closer to claiming the Big 8 Conference championship on Thursday night with a 48-37 home court victory over the Reading Rangers.
After the two teams battled to a 8-8 tie after the first quarter, the Vikings used a 21-8 second quarter to take a 29-16 halftime lead.
A 14-8 third quarter put the Vikings ahead 43-24.
Reading refused to quit as they outscored Bronson in the final period 13-5.
Bronson is now 13-0 in the Big 8 and 17-3 overall.
They will play their final conference game at Springport Monday night. The Spartans are one game back of the Vikings for first place in the conference at 12-1 after they defeated Jonesville on Thursday night 41-37.
Also in girls basketball on Thursday, Union City lost at home to Homer 52-32. Aaelya Asher led the Chargers with 10 points. Union City is now 0-13 in the Big 8 and 2-17 overall.
Quincy also lost at home to Concord 45-40. The loss dropped the Orioles record to 4-9 in the Big 8 and 6-13 overall.
