BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It’s crunch time for high school winter sports as state championships will be decided in team wrestling this weekend while regional titles are on the line in bowling.
The Bronson Vikings wrestling team will be competing Friday at noon in the MHSAA Division 4 quarterfinals against Manchester at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo. The Vikings are seeded third among the final eight teams and will bring a record of 37-1 into Friday’s match. Manchester is 23-6. Bronson defeated Manchester 44-25 in last year’s quarterfinals. The winner of Friday’s match will advance to the semifinals Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. to face either St. Louis or Benzie Central.
Bowling teams from Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson will be competing in regional tournaments on Friday and Saturday. Coldwater will once again be at the Division 2 regional meet at Kalamazoo’s Continental Lanes. Quincy will be at the Division 3 regional meet at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek and Bronson will be in the Division 4 regional at JAX 60 in Jackson. The team competitions will take place on Friday with the singles competition on Saturday.
In other Branch County high school sports on Friday, Coldwater’s girls and boys basketball teams will host Jackson Lumen Christi on Senior Night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium. Both Cardinal squads are tied for first place in the Interstate 8 Conference. The girls game tips at 5:30 p.m. Coverage here on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB starts at around 5:20 p.m.
Also in boys basketball on Friday night, Bronson will host Reading, Quincy will host Concord, Union City hosts Homer on Hall of Fame and Make-A-Wish night, and Tekonsha will host Waldron. In girls basketball, Union City will be at Manchester.
Coldwater’s boys swimming and diving team will be competing at the SMAC meet which is being hosted by Battle Creek Lakeview.
