CONSTANTINE, MI (WTVB) – It’s been a tough season for the Union City Chargers but they won their opening round game in the M.H.S.A.A. Girls Basketball District Tournament at Constantine on Monday night as they defeated the Falcons 39-31.
Aaelya Asher led the Chargers with 12 points while Gracie Phelps had ten points and five rebounds.
Union City is now 3-19. They will face top-seeded Bronson in the second semifinal at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings are 18-3.
The winner of the Union City-Bronson game will face either White Pigeon or Centreville for the district title on Friday night.
Meanwhile, Coldwater will play Battle Creek Central in the semifinals of the Division One district tournament at Battle Creek Lakeview.
The 7-12 Bearcats advanced on Monday with a 44-24 win over Harper Creek. The Cardinals are the top seed in the district thanks to their 21-1 record.
Gull Lake defeated Sturgis 54-20 in the other first round game on Monday. Gull Lake will face the host and second seeded Lakeview Spartans in the other Wednesday night semifinal.
The championship game of the Battle Creek Lakeview district is set for Friday night.
